Award-Winning Chef Luigi Diotaiuti is proud to offer his patrons the opportunity to visit his homeland on a carefully curated tour of Italy's culinary heritage in Basilicata!
Conceived and personally led by Italy and Basilicata's world-renowned culinary ambassador, philanthropist, and owner of the award-winning restaurant Al Tiramisù in Washington, DC has created the tour to celebrate the traditions, culture, and sustainability of his home region. The founder of the Luigi Diotaiuti Foundation, Chef Luigi Diotaiuti now offers small group tours of a select group of clients and friends who have come to appreciate the authentic flavors of his restaurant. During the Timeless Basilicata Tour, travelers will spend ten days immersed in the land that inspired their favorite dishes.
Lucanian cuisine is culture, history, sustainability, and beauty, and since Basilicata was home to some of the earliest human settlements in Italy, it is the perfect place to discuss the history of Italian cuisine and culture more broadly. With this tour, Chef Diotaiuti, born on a farm in Lagonegro, aims to personally teach Americans how a healthy, symbiotic relationship between people, plants, and animals creates a healthier planet and healthier people — which is also the mission of his foundation.
Unlike other food and wine tours that focus exclusively on finished products, the activities of the "Timeless Basilicata" tour — each carefully curated by the Luigi Diotaiuti Foundation — promote respect for farmers and their living conditions, for animals, and for recipes and practices at risk of disappearing. The tour also highlights the importance of biodiversity and sustainability, showing how modern Italian farmers are blending tradition and technology for a better future.
